Duchess' 2nd

CLUB History

In 1974 the late 14th Duke of Bedford had the foresight and courage to see that a world-class golf facility could be created at Woburn. The setting in a Pine forest on a hill overlooking Milton Keynes gave the opportunity to create a 36 hole complex of prestigious beauty and challenging holes.

The Duke's course, designed by Charles Lawrie, opened in 1976, and was closely followed by Lawrie's other design, the Duchess', in 1978. The Duke himself always suspected that the very best piece of land had not yet been used and for many years hoped to build a third course.

This vision was realised in the late 1990s, and the new Marquess' course, designed by Peter Alliss & Clive Clark, European Golf Design (Ross McMuray) and Alex Hay, was officially opened in June 2000. It is designed with modern Champions in mind, and has quickly become known as one of the best new Inland Courses in Britain.

We are now tremendously proud that all three courses are enjoyed and appreciated by golfers from all over the world and look forward to maintaining and building on our reputation in the years to come.
